What a safety inspection certificate covers in WA

A safety inspection certificate confirms that the electrical installation at your property has been examined by a licensed electrician and tested against the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules and Western Australian electrical regulations. It documents the condition of your switchboard, circuits, residual current devices and safety switches, and gives you a written record that the wiring is safe to use.

RCD and smoke alarm rules you must meet

Two requirements catch out most WA property owners at point of sale or lease. The first is residual current devices. Many older boards have one or none, which means an upgrade is needed before a certificate can be issued.

The second is smoke alarms. Properties offered for sale or lease must have mains-powered, interconnected smoke alarms that are less than ten years old and in working order.
