Outdoor Lights in Perth by Spark Tech Electrical

Outdoor Lighting Done Properly Across Perth

Good outdoor lighting changes how you use your home after dark. It lifts the look of a facade, makes paths and steps safe to walk, and makes a property far less inviting to anyone who shouldn't be there. Spark Tech Electrical is a licensed electrical contractor based in Padbury, installing outdoor lighting for homeowners right across the Perth northern suburbs and greater metro.

Because every outdoor fitting runs off mains power and lives in a harsh environment of sun, rain and salt air, this is not a job for plug-in kits and guesswork. It is fixed electrical work that must be carried out and certified by a licensed electrician. We handle the design, the cabling, the fittings and the testing, then leave you with lighting that works on the first switch and keeps working through every Perth season.

Types of Outdoor Lighting We Install

Outdoor lighting is rarely one fitting. Most homes want a mix that covers looks, safety and security, and we plan the circuits so each zone can be switched or automated the way you actually use it.

  • Garden and landscape lighting to wash walls, uplight trees and highlight planting and feature stone.
  • Path, step and driveway lighting for safe footing and clear access at night.
  • Security and floodlighting with motion sensors covering entries, side access and dark corners.
  • Patio, alfresco and pergola lighting including downlights, wall lights and festoon runs.
  • Pool and water-feature lighting installed to the stricter wiring rules that apply around water.
  • Wall lights and entry lighting to frame the front of the home and welcome guests.

Sensors, Timers and Smart Control

Lighting you have to remember to switch on rarely gets used. We set up motion sensors so security and floodlights trigger only when there is movement, which saves power and avoids lighting an empty yard all night. Photocell sensors switch garden and entry lighting on at dusk and off at dawn automatically.

For more control we can wire timers and smart switching so zones run on a schedule or from your phone. It is worth deciding up front which lights are decorative, which are security, and which need to be independent, because that shapes how we group the circuits and where the switching goes.

Weatherproofing and Why It Matters

Perth throws a lot at outdoor electrical work. Coastal suburbs like Hillarys, Scarborough and Sorrento deal with salt-laden air that corrodes cheap fittings, while summer UV degrades poor cabling and seals. We specify fittings with an IP rating suited to their exposure, use outdoor-rated cable and weatherproof enclosures, and seal every entry point so water cannot track into a connection.

Buried cabling is run at the correct depth in conduit, and connections are made in proper weatherproof junctions rather than taped joints. This is the difference between lighting that survives a decade and lighting that trips a breaker after the first heavy winter downpour.

Energy-Efficient LED Upgrades

Almost every outdoor install we do now uses LED. It draws a fraction of the power of old halogen floodlights and quartz fittings, runs cooler, and lasts far longer, which matters when a fitting is mounted high on a wall or buried in a garden bed. Swapping aging halogen floods for modern LED is one of the quickest ways to cut a power bill while getting brighter, cleaner light.

We help you choose the right colour temperature too. A warm white suits gardens and entertaining areas, while a cooler, brighter white reads better for security and driveways.

WA Compliance and Safety

All of our work follows the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules and is carried out under our WA electrical contractor licence, EC 17280, with the industry regulated by EnergySafety WA, part of Building and Energy. New and altered circuits are tested and certified, and you receive the required electrical safety certificate on completion.

RCD protection is the law in WA. Western Australian regulations require at least two RCDs covering the power and lighting circuits in a home. When we add or modify outdoor lighting circuits, we make sure the relevant circuits are RCD protected, and we will flag it if your switchboard falls short of the current requirement.

Any work that touches the supply, metering or the network side of the connection is coordinated with Western Power as the network operator, so the job is done correctly and signed off without surprises.

Why Choose Spark Tech Electrical

We are local to Padbury and work across Joondalup, Hillarys, Duncraig, Scarborough, Stirling, Wanneroo and the surrounding northern suburbs, as well as the wider Perth metro. That means shorter travel, genuine knowledge of the coastal conditions your fittings face, and a tidy, properly certified result.

Every quote is itemised and honest. Cost depends on the number of fittings, cable runs and trenching, the type and quality of fittings, sensor and smart controls, and any switchboard work needed to meet RCD requirements. Tell us what you want the lighting to do and we will design something that fits the property and the budget, then install it to last.

Outdoor Lights Perth FAQs

Common questions Perth homeowners and businesses ask before booking. Still not sure? Just give us a call.

Yes. Any outdoor lighting wired into your mains supply is fixed electrical work and must be installed by a licensed electrician under Western Australian law. Plug-in solar or festoon kits are fine to set up yourself, but anything hardwired, including floodlights, garden circuits and switching, must be done and certified by a licensed contractor like Spark Tech Electrical.
Yes. WA regulations require at least two RCDs covering a home's power and lighting circuits. When we install or alter an outdoor lighting circuit, we make sure it is RCD protected and test it on completion. If your switchboard does not have adequate RCDs, we will let you know and can upgrade it so the install meets the current requirement.
It varies with the job. The main cost factors are the number and type of fittings, the length of cable runs and any trenching, sensors or smart controls, and whether your switchboard needs work to meet RCD rules. We give an itemised quote up front so there are no surprises. We never quote a flat figure without seeing what the property needs.
In most cases yes. We can fit motion sensors and photocells to existing floodlights and security lights, or supply new sensor fittings. Motion sensors trigger lights only when there is movement, and photocells switch garden and entry lights on at dusk and off at dawn. We assess the existing wiring first to confirm the safest way to add the control.
Coastal areas like Hillarys, Scarborough and Sorrento have salt-laden air that corrodes low-quality fittings fast. We specify marine-grade or corrosion-resistant fittings with an IP rating suited to the exposure, use outdoor-rated cable, and seal every connection. Spending a little more on the right fittings upfront avoids premature failure and repeat callouts in salty coastal conditions.
We are based in Padbury and cover the Perth northern suburbs including Joondalup, Hillarys, Duncraig, Scarborough, Stirling and Wanneroo, plus the wider Perth metro. Being local means shorter travel times and real familiarity with the coastal and weather conditions your outdoor fittings will face. Get in touch and we will confirm we service your area.
