Pool Lighting in Perth by Spark Tech Electrical

Pool Lighting Done Properly by Licensed Perth Electricians

A well-lit pool transforms your backyard after dark and makes night swimming safer for the whole family. Spark Tech Electrical is a licensed Western Australian electrical contractor (EC 17280) based in Padbury, installing, upgrading and repairing pool and spa lighting right across the Perth northern suburbs and greater metro. We handle everything from a single underwater globe swap to a full multi-light scheme with surrounding deck and feature lighting.

Pool lighting sits in a wet, high-risk zone, so it is not a job for a handyman or a pool cleaner working outside their trade. Every install we do is carried out by a licensed electrician, wired to the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules, and tested before we leave. You get a clean result that looks great and meets the safety standards expected in WA.

LED Pool Light Upgrades and Retrofits

If your pool still runs an old halogen or incandescent globe, an LED upgrade is one of the best value improvements you can make. LED pool lights draw a fraction of the power, run cooler, and last far longer, which means lower running costs and fewer return visits to change a globe. The light output is also noticeably brighter and cleaner.

Many modern LED fixtures are designed as retrofit units that fit existing niches, so in a lot of cases we can swap the globe or fitting without draining the pool. We will assess your existing housing, transformer and cabling first, then recommend a like-for-like retrofit or a full fixture replacement where the old gear is past its life.

Colour-Changing and Feature Lighting

RGB colour-changing LED lights let you shift the mood from a calm white for a quiet evening to vibrant colours for a party, usually controlled from a wall switch, remote or app depending on the system. Beyond the underwater lights, we can light the whole outdoor space so it works as one scheme.

  • Underwater pool and spa lighting, single or multiple fixtures
  • RGB colour-changing and programmable LED systems
  • Surrounding deck, path and step lighting for safe footing at night
  • Garden, feature wall and water-feature accent lighting
  • Switching, dimming, timers and smart control integration

Safety, Compliance and Why Low Voltage Matters

Water and electricity demand a careful approach. Pool and spa lighting in WA is installed to the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules, which set out the restricted zones around a pool and the protective measures required for any electrical equipment near water. Most pool lights run at extra-low voltage through an isolating transformer, which keeps the voltage at the light itself very low for safety.

Under WA rules, residential power and lighting circuits must be protected by at least two RCDs (safety switches). Where pool lighting is added to or fed from your switchboard, we make sure the relevant circuits have compliant RCD protection and that the work is properly isolated, earthed and tested.

Important: Pool and spa electrical work is licensed work in Western Australia. It must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor and is regulated by EnergySafety (Building and Energy). Always insist on a licensed electrician and an electrical safety certificate for the work.

Pool Light Repairs and Fault Finding

Pool lights fail for a range of reasons: a blown globe or LED module, a failed transformer, water ingress into the fitting, corroded connections, or a tripping safety switch caused by moisture in the circuit. Because the symptoms often look the same, the right fix starts with proper fault finding rather than guesswork.

We test the fixture, transformer and circuit to find the actual cause, then repair or replace the faulty component. If your safety switch keeps tripping when the pool light is on, do not keep resetting it. That is a warning sign of a fault in the wet zone and it needs to be investigated by a licensed electrician.

What Affects the Cost of Pool Lighting

Every pool is different, so we quote on what your job actually involves rather than a one-size-fits-all figure. A straightforward LED retrofit into an existing, healthy niche is a smaller job than a brand new installation that needs fresh cabling and a transformer. The main factors that influence price include:

  • Whether it is a retrofit into an existing fitting or a new install needing new cabling
  • Number of lights and whether you choose plain white or RGB colour-changing fixtures
  • Condition of the existing transformer, housing and wiring
  • Switchboard work or RCD upgrades needed to bring the circuit up to standard
  • Adding surrounding deck, path or feature lighting at the same time

We give you a clear quote up front so there are no surprises. Bundling pool, deck and garden lighting into one visit usually works out better value than doing them as separate jobs later.

Servicing Perth's Northern Suburbs and Beyond

From our Padbury base we cover the northern corridor including Joondalup, Hillarys, Duncraig, Scarborough, Stirling and Wanneroo, as well as the wider Perth metropolitan area. As a local team we know the suburbs, turn up when we say we will, and keep the job tidy.

If a job involves the supply, metering or any network-side connection, Western Power is the network operator for the Perth metro and we coordinate that side correctly. For everything inside your property, our licensed electricians handle the design, install and testing end to end.

Pool Lighting Perth FAQs

Common questions Perth homeowners and businesses ask before booking. Still not sure? Just give us a call.

Usually no. Many modern LED pool lights are retrofit units that fit your existing niche, so the fitting can often be swapped without draining the pool. We assess your existing housing, transformer and cabling first. If the old gear is failing or a full new install is needed, more work may be required, and we will explain that before starting.
For most Perth pools, yes. LED pool lights use far less power, run cooler and last much longer than halogen or incandescent globes, which cuts running costs and reduces how often a light needs changing. They are also brighter and offer colour-changing options. An LED upgrade typically pays for itself over time through lower energy use and fewer replacements.
No. Pool and spa lighting is electrical work in a high-risk wet zone, so in Western Australia it must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor and complies with the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules. Electrical work is regulated by EnergySafety (Building and Energy). Always use a licensed electrician and ask for an electrical safety certificate for the work completed.
That usually means moisture or a fault has entered the light fitting, transformer or wiring in the wet zone. Do not keep resetting the safety switch, as it is doing its job by protecting you. The fault needs proper testing by a licensed electrician to find the cause, then the faulty component is repaired or replaced so the circuit is safe and stable again.
Most pool and spa lights run at extra-low voltage supplied through an isolating transformer, which keeps the voltage at the light itself very low for safety. Combined with correct earthing, isolation and the WA requirement for RCD (safety switch) protection on the circuit, a properly installed pool light is safe. The key is that the install follows AS/NZS 3000 and is done by a licensed electrician.
We are based in Padbury and cover the northern suburbs including Joondalup, Hillarys, Duncraig, Scarborough, Stirling and Wanneroo, plus the wider Perth metropolitan area.
