Power Point Installation in Perth by Spark Tech Electrical

Power Point Installation Across Perth

Running an extension lead across the room or fighting over the one outlet behind the TV gets old fast. Adding a power point where you actually need it is one of the quickest wins in any home, and it has to be done by a licensed electrician. Spark Tech Electrical installs, replaces and relocates power points throughout Perth, working out of our Padbury base and covering the northern suburbs including Joondalup, Hillarys, Duncraig, Scarborough, Stirling and Wanneroo, plus the wider metro.

Every install is carried out under our electrical contractor licence (EC 17280) and wired to the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules. That means the work is safe, compliant, and ready for any future inspection, with the cabling sized correctly and the outlet protected the way Western Australian regulations require.

Outlets We Install

A power point is rarely just a power point anymore. We fit the right outlet for the room and the appliances you plan to run, and we can match the finish to your existing switches and plates so it looks like it was always there.

  • Single and double general power outlets (GPOs) for living areas, bedrooms and hallways.
  • USB and USB-C combo outlets so phones and tablets charge without a wall plug.
  • Weatherproof outdoor power points for patios, alfresco areas, sheds and pool pumps.
  • 15 and 20 amp outlets for caravans, welders, air conditioners and workshop gear.
  • Smart and switched outlets for appliances you want to isolate or automate.
  • Kitchen and benchtop points positioned clear of sinks and cooktops to meet clearance rules.

Adding a New Power Point

Adding a point usually means running a new cable from an existing circuit or the switchboard to the spot you want, then chasing it into the wall and fitting the outlet. In a single-storey home with accessible roof space the job is straightforward. Double-storey runs, brick walls, concrete and tiled splashbacks take more time and care, which is the main reason quotes vary.

We always check the existing circuit before adding load to it. If a circuit is already near capacity, piling more outlets onto it is how you end up with nuisance tripping or overheating. Where needed we will run a dedicated circuit back to the board so the new point has clean, reliable supply.

Replacing and Relocating Outlets

Old, cracked or scorched outlets are worth replacing before they become a hazard. Discolouration around a socket, a plug that feels loose, or a faint burning smell all point to a worn or damaged point that needs attention. We swap tired outlets for modern ones, upgrade single points to doubles, and relocate points when you rearrange a room or renovate.

If you are mounting a TV, fitting a rangehood, or moving the fridge, getting the outlet repositioned properly is far tidier and safer than relying on power boards and trailing leads.

Outdoor and Weatherproof Points

Outdoor outlets sit in a harsher environment, so they need weatherproof enclosures rated for the conditions and correct sealing against rain and dust. We install points for alfresco kitchens, patios, garden lighting, pool and spa equipment, sheds and water features, all wired and protected to suit outdoor use under the Wiring Rules.

Outdoor and wet-area work generally costs a little more than a simple indoor point because of the weatherproof hardware and the extra cable run involved, but it is the only safe way to power equipment outside the house.

RCD Protection and WA Compliance

In Western Australia, power and lighting circuits in homes must be protected by residual current devices, and the rules require at least two RCDs covering those circuits. RCDs cut the power in a fraction of a second if they detect a fault, which is what protects you from a serious shock. When we add or upgrade outlets we confirm the relevant circuit is RCD protected, and if your switchboard is short on RCDs we will let you know and can sort it as part of the job.

Selling or leasing your property? WA law requires at least two RCDs on the home's circuits and mains-powered, interconnected smoke alarms before a property is sold or rented. If you are getting a home ready for the market, we can check the switchboard and alarms at the same time as your power point work so everything is compliant in one visit.

What Affects the Cost

We never quote a flat figure sight unseen because every home is different. The price of a power point install in Perth depends on a handful of practical factors, and being honest about them up front means no surprises on the invoice.

  • Outlet type: a standard GPO is cheaper than a USB, smart or weatherproof unit.
  • Cable run: a short run from a nearby point is quick; a long run from the switchboard takes more cable and labour.
  • Wall and access: accessible roof space is easy, while brick, concrete, double-storey and tiled walls take longer.
  • Circuit work: if a new dedicated circuit or board space is needed, that adds to the job.
  • Quantity: doing several points in one visit usually brings the per-point cost down.

The cleanest way to get an accurate figure is a quick look at the spot and your switchboard. Give us the details and we will give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Power Point Installation Perth FAQs

Common questions Perth homeowners and businesses ask before booking. Still not sure? Just give us a call.

No. In Western Australia all fixed electrical wiring, including adding or replacing power points, must be done by a licensed electrician. Wiring an outlet yourself is illegal and dangerous, it voids your insurance, and it can fail safety inspections. A licensed electrician ensures the work meets the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules and is properly tested before use.
It depends on the outlet type, how far the cable has to run, wall access, and whether any circuit work is needed. A simple indoor point near an existing outlet is quick and inexpensive, while weatherproof, double-storey or switchboard runs cost more. Installing several points in one visit usually lowers the per-point price. We give a clear quote before starting any work.
Yes. We install weatherproof outlets for patios, alfresco areas, sheds, pool and spa equipment and garden lighting. Outdoor points use sealed, weather-rated enclosures and are wired and protected for wet conditions under the Wiring Rules. They typically cost a little more than indoor points because of the weatherproof hardware and the extra cable run involved.
A residual current device cuts power within milliseconds when it detects a fault, protecting you from electric shock. In Western Australia, home power and lighting circuits must be RCD protected, with at least two RCDs covering them. When we install outlets we confirm the circuit is RCD protected, and if your switchboard is short we can add the protection needed.
Yes. We fit USB and USB-C combo outlets that charge phones, tablets and other devices directly from the wall, freeing up the power sockets for appliances. They are popular in bedrooms, kitchens and home offices. We can match the plate finish to your existing switches so the new outlet blends in with the rest of the room.
We are based in Padbury and service the northern suburbs including Joondalup, Hillarys, Duncraig, Scarborough, Stirling and Wanneroo, along with the wider Perth metro.
