What We Do

Your Local Perth Electrician for Every Job

Spark Tech Electrical provides the full range of electrical services for homes and businesses across Perth, all under one licensed roof. We are a fully licensed Western Australian electrical contractor (EC 17280), based in Padbury and covering the northern suburbs and wider metro. Whether you need an extra power point, a switchboard upgrade, new lighting throughout the house, or a complete commercial fit-out, you deal with the same careful, compliant team from quote to completion.

Every job we carry out is completed to the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules, the national standard that governs electrical installations in Australia. We are happy to explain exactly what your job involves, what has to happen on the customer side versus the Western Power network side, and what it will cost before any work starts. No vague hourly guesses and no surprises on the invoice. Below you will find our residential and commercial services, with each one linking to its own detailed page.

Domestic and Commercial Under One EC Licence

There is a real advantage in using one electrician for both your home and your business. You get a single point of contact who already knows your sites, consistent paperwork and certification, and the same standard of workmanship every time. Spark Tech Electrical is set up to do exactly that. We hold a Western Australian electrical contractor licence (EC 17280), which covers the business, while every electrician on the job holds their own electrical worker (EW) licence. That distinction matters: in WA, only a licensed electrical contractor can take on and certify electrical work, and you can check our EC number on the Building and Energy public licence register at any time.

Switchboard and Meter Box Upgrades for Older Perth Homes

A large share of Perth's established housing stock still runs old ceramic rewireable fuses or switchboards with little or no RCD protection. These boards were never designed for the load a modern home puts on them, with ducted reverse-cycle air conditioning, induction cooktops, pool pumps and EV chargers all drawing power at once. The common signs are breakers that trip for no obvious reason, a board that feels warm, scorch marks, or simply running out of spare ways for new circuits.

Upgrading to a modern switchboard gives you proper circuit protection, room to grow, and brings the installation in line with the current AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules. We assess your existing board, advise honestly on whether an upgrade is worthwhile, and handle any meter box or supply changes that need to go through Western Power.

Safe asbestos handling: many older Perth meter boxes are made of asbestos sheeting. Where that is the case, we plan the upgrade so the old box is removed and disposed of safely rather than cut or drilled on site.

Safety Switches, RCDs and Smoke Alarm Compliance

Western Australian regulations require a minimum of two RCD safety switches covering all power and lighting circuits, and these rules bite hardest at the point of sale or when a property is leased to a new tenant. Hardwired, interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms are also required for sale and rental, and must be less than ten years old. If you are a homeowner, landlord or property manager, this is one of the most common reasons people call us.

We test what you currently have, install or upgrade RCDs and smoke alarms to the right standard, and make sure the property meets WA requirements before settlement or a new tenancy. It is straightforward work that protects the people in the building and keeps you compliant.

EV Charger Installation for Homes and Workplaces

Home and workplace EV charging is one of the fastest growing jobs we do. A dedicated charging circuit is safer and far more convenient than running a charger off a standard power point, and faster chargers around 11kW or 22kW usually need three-phase power to run properly. Before we recommend anything, we assess your total electrical load and switchboard capacity, then advise on single-phase or three-phase options and whether a supply upgrade is needed. The result is a tidy, compliant install ready for daily charging. If your property needs three-phase first, see our 3 phase power installation page.

Emergency and After-Hours Electrical Repairs

Electrical faults do not keep business hours. Lost power, a sparking outlet, a burning smell or a tripping circuit that will not reset all need attention quickly. We prioritise getting to urgent jobs across the Perth metro and making the situation safe, then sorting a permanent repair. For anything you can smell or see arcing, switch off at the board if it is safe to do so and call us straight away.

What Affects the Cost of Electrical Work in Perth

There is no single price for electrical work because every job is different. Rather than quote a figure over the phone, we assess the work and give you a clear written quote. The main things that move the price are:

  • The scope of the job and the number of points, circuits or fittings involved
  • The age and condition of your existing wiring and switchboard
  • How easy the cabling runs are to access, for example a single-storey roof space versus a two-storey or solid-ceiling home
  • The materials and fittings you choose
  • Whether it is a standard booking or an urgent after-hours callout
  • Any work that has to go through Western Power, such as a supply upgrade or meter change, which adds time and separate network fees

We explain which parts of a job are customer-side and which are network-controlled, so you always understand what you are paying for and why.

Working with Western Power: Western Power owns the poles, wires and meters that bring supply to your property. Any work on the network side, such as a supply increase, new connection or meter relocation, is lodged and coordinated by a licensed electrical contractor. We handle that paperwork and complete the customer-side wiring to AS/NZS 3000.

Electrical Services Perth FAQs

Common questions Perth homeowners and businesses ask before booking an electrician. Still not sure? Just give us a call.

Yes. We hold electrical contractor licence EC 17280, which you can verify on the WA Building and Energy public register. The contractor licence covers the business, while each electrician on the job holds their own electrical worker (EW) licence. All work is carried out to the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules and we issue compliance documentation where required.
We handle the full residential range: power points, LED downlights, ceiling and exhaust fans, switchboard and meter box upgrades, RCD safety switches, hardwired smoke alarms, oven and hot water connections, rewiring, outdoor and security lighting, and EV chargers. From a single power point to a full rewire, it is all booked through one licensed Padbury-based team.
We do both. Alongside domestic work we cover commercial jobs including 3-phase power, office and warehouse lighting, emergency and exit lighting, data cabling, test and tag, and shop and office fit-outs. Whether you manage a home, a rental portfolio or a business premises, the same EC 17280 licence and compliance standards apply.
Many established Perth homes still run ceramic rewireable fuses or boards without modern RCD protection. These struggle with today's appliance loads and do not meet current safety expectations. Upgrading to a modern switchboard with RCD safety switches brings the board in line with AS/NZS 3000 and reduces nuisance trips, overheating and shock risk.
Yes. In Western Australia at least two RCDs must protect all power and lighting circuits before a property is sold or rented, and compliant hardwired interconnected smoke alarms are required for sale and lease. We assess your circuits, install or upgrade RCDs and smoke alarms, and make sure the property meets WA requirements before settlement or a new tenancy.
Cost depends on the job: scope and number of points, switchboard age and condition, cabling access, materials, and whether it is a standard or after-hours callout. Network-side work involving Western Power, such as supply upgrades or metering, adds time. We assess the work first and give a clear upfront quote rather than guessing a figure over the phone.
Yes. Where a job touches the network side, such as a supply upgrade, new connection or meter relocation, we coordinate the work that has to go through Western Power and complete the customer-side wiring to AS/NZS 3000. We explain which parts are network-controlled so there are no surprises on timing or responsibility.
We are based in Padbury and cover the northern suburbs and wider Perth metro, including Joondalup, Wanneroo, Hillarys, Duncraig, Scarborough, Stirling and surrounding areas.
